In a business valuation, experts evaluate data pertaining to the assets
and operations of a business to determine its value.  Our experts rely
on relevant principles and methods in determining a business
value.  Business valuations may require multiple experts if real estate or
other assets must be appraised.

Data Gathering

The three major methods for valuing a business are asset valuation, income valuation and market valuation.  To develop an accurate valuation relying on these methods, our experts gather information about the company, the industry, and the prevailing economic conditions.  Necessary information includes company and financial data, legal documents and industry data.  Specific data includes, but is not limited to, annual financial statements, company history, company organization information, company ownership structure, buy-sell agreements, customer lists, customer contracts and loan agreements.

Assumptions

Major assumptions include capitalization rates, discount rates, forecasted revenue and cost streams, shifts in customer preferences and overall industry structure and in some instances, unaudited financial statements.  Business valuations may also rely on real estate and machinery or equipment appraisals which will be performed by others.  In some cases, minority and marketability discounts must also be developed.

Report and Opinions

Based on data gathered and assumptions made, our experts can develop a business valuation report but may also be asked to respond to an opposing expert's report, attend a deposition, review deposition transcripts, give a deposition, and/or provide testimony at trial.  The calculations and opinions in the resulting report will comply with the standards set by the industry, state and/or federal regulations, court decisions and rulings.  Selected portions of the report may be subject to standards for real estate appraisal and machinery or equipment appraisals.  The final opinion will be fair and relevant and will benefit the Trier of fact in his/her efforts to arrive at a fair decision.
